Join me on my mission to help educate people and help owners and their dogs find balance and live in harmony with one another. Trust, respect, bond, relationship, and connection!
If you are experiencing any of the unwanted behaviors listed above, YOU ARE NOT ALONE and there is HOPE! Too many dog owners simply give up or learn to live with their dog's behavioral issues. Even worse, there are still many (good) people who believe that yelling, being more forceful, or using choke, prong, or shock collars will help dogs behave better. I never advocate the use of any of these training methods, which can cause discomfort, confusion, anxiety, and reactivity. Where is the quality of life for all parties involved when your dog is living in an unbalanced, stressful state? How can we expect our dogs to love, trust, and respect us when we are the source of confusion, anxiety, and fear? There are easier and kinder ways to communicate with your dog(s) by understanding some basic dog psychology and tapping into their instinctual nature. Throw away the old-school methods (you know you want to) and educate yourself...THERE IS A BETTER WAY!

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved animals. I was the child who would try and care for any sick or injured birds/animals that I found in our yard. When I became a dog trainer over 12 years ago, my father said to me, "This job is perfect for you!" Since then, it has become my passion to educate people and train them to better communicate with their pet(s). I absolutely love building relationships and partnering with people and their dogs, and I believe I am using the gifts and talents heaven blessed me with.
My dog training experience began in 2012 as an employee at PetSmart in Delavan, and I have been learning and growing ever since. If you would have asked me twenty, fifteen, or even ten years ago what I would be doing now, I never would have guessed dog training. What better way to make a genuine difference in this world serving and encouraging people and helping dogs live safe, healthy, and balanced lives with their family. I am doing what I love and am very passionate about what I do.
Too many (well meaning) people are ignorant or simply misinformed when it comes to communicating with and training their dog(s). Taking the time to educate yourself and seek a holistic, force-free approach to dog training makes all the difference in the world! I consider myself a dog advocate of sorts, and I am truly humbled to be a part of improving and saving lives. This is the door God opened for me, I went through it, and I am happier than ever.
As a side note, there is a special place in my heart for shelter rescue dogs. Many of them have experienced a rough start in life and just need someone to help them move forward and trust again. Both my Kaiah and Oliver are rescues and wonderful additions to our family. They have accompanied me on occasion and are great assistants. Dogs are able to communicate and understand each other much better than humans, and sometimes that is just what is needed.
Throw Me a Bone, LLC is founded upon the Christian principles of honesty, excellence, commitment, diligence and kindness.

MY PHILOSOPHY
Holistic Approach To Pawsitive Relationships
Humans have chosen to share our lives with dogs and invited them into our world. We have a moral obligation and owe them the very best we have to offer. This means being knowledgeable and making the best choices for them. It is important to have a relationship-based training philosophy, weighing everything against how it will affect our relationship with our dog(s) - positive or negative. Look into their eyes and ask, "How is this working for you?" Positive reinforcement techniques reward the behaviors you want rather than punish the behaviors you don't want. Behavior that is rewarded is more likely to reoccur because dogs do what works for them. Let's make the time and effort to actually teach our dogs, not just stop unwanted behaviors using punishment, intimidation, or force. We want our dogs to enjoy training and become more confident, well-adjusted pets. Make the right choice and honor your dog(s) through kind, gentle, force-free methods.
01
Communication / Leadership
Training should be an enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. The more you understand how your dog thinks and learns, the more effectively you can communicate. Like children, dogs need guidance and boundaries. Good leadership will earn your dog's trust and respect and help them to feel secure. Be kind, be fair, be consistent, be a strong, benevolent leader. Your dog will love you for it.
03
Timid & Reactive Dogs
Anxiety and fear are the most common underlying causes of behavior problems in dogs - leash aggression, reactivity around strangers or other dogs, shy around visitors, terrified of thunder or fireworks, etc. Dogs do feel emotions, and arousal, anxiety, and fear are very real to them. Trying to understand the dog's point of view and having empathy is a great place to start. Giving clear and consistent signals, being sensitive, and allowing our dogs to define their safety zone is crucial to their wellbeing.

02
Basic Obedience / Behavior Modification
Obedience training is a way to have a happy, successful relationship with your dog. My goal is to help improve the lives of both people and their dogs, and obedience training is a great place to deepen the bond with your pet and establish yourself as the leader. Without a clear leader, your dog may take on that role himself, causing behavioral issues such as reactivity, separation anxiety, and fear. Leadership is a fundamental prerequisite of most behavior modification programs.
04
Unwanted Behaviors
Many behavior problems exhibited by dogs originate because of unhealthy lifestyles - failure to accommodate the dog's needs - mismanagement, and poor training. Gentle, force-free training methods lay the foundation for a dog's capacity to learn, their healthy socialization, and will help prevent behavior problems. Clear, consistent communication means successful training and good behavior, with no need for coercion or physical corrections.

SERVICES AND FEES

INITIAL CONSULTATION / EVALUATION
This important session is foundational to your overall success with your dog(s). We discuss dog psychology basics, leadership/communication from a dog’s perspective, how to use body language/energy, how your dog thinks, learns, and interprets the world around them, and how to harness your dog’s instinctual nature. Positive reinforcement or reward-based training techniques are utilized, which strengthens your bond and connection.
This initial session gives you the opportunity to meet me and see if I would be a good fit for you and your dog(s). It also allows me to evaluate your relationship with your dog(s) and assess any behavioral issues or deficiencies in the areas of leadership and communication. There is a lot of hands-on training, plus so much more!
There is a Client Information Form (usually emailed ahead of time), Dog Training Services Agreement and Photo Release that need to be completed, as well. Keep in mind that I am offering customized training, because every dog is unique, every individual/family is unique, and everyone's circumstances are different.
3 hrs: $115
OBEDIENCE TRAINING
(11 months old and up)
Developing a relationship / bond with your dog(s)
is crucial to successful training and will build a firm foundation of respect and trust. It is also essential that your pup(s) exhibit self-control and restraint, as an over-excited or reactive dog will struggle to focus. I assist you in teaching your dog(s) to understand that no interaction will take place unless they are calm and their energy level is acceptable.
Prior to beginning actual basic obedience training, it is vital to understand how eye contact and claiming personal space plays an integral part in regards to leadership and communication with your pup(s). We will use the lure-reward method to encourage your dog(s) and teach them what the desired action or response is.
The basic dog commands / cues of “watch me,” “sit,” “down,” “wait,” “drop,” “come,” “leave it” and “stay” are covered, as well as loose leash walking techniques. Any behavioral issues you may be experiencing will be discussed, as well.
1 hr: $45.00
2 hrs: $75.00*

PUPPY TRAINING
(8 weeks - 11 months old)
The main focus when you first bring your puppy home is developing a relationship / bond and building a firm foundation of respect and trust. Again, it is crucial to teach your puppy self-control and restraint, as this is what their parents/dog pack would do. Monitoring your puppy’s energy level is very important to successful training. An over-excited puppy will struggle to focus and undesirable behavior(s) can escalate very quickly. Puppies tend to get very “mouthy” when they have been allowed to reach / pass an unacceptable energy level.
Some of the common puppy developmental issues discussed include house-training, crate training, biting/nipping, chewing, whining, barking, etc. Puppies will be encouraged to make eye contact with their owners and look to them for direction, and the topic of claiming personal space will be reviewed, as well. It is helpful to understand some of the canine world’s “doggy protocols” and how to use them to your advantage.
The basic dog commands / cues of “watch me,” “sit,” “down,” “wait,” “drop,” “come,” “leave it” and “stay” are covered, as well as loose leash walking techniques. Any behavioral issues you may be experiencing will be discussed, as well.
1 hr: $35.00

Macie B. says:
"I adopted a dog who turned out to have no manors and had protection issues with different things such as food and water bottles. He had been shuffled from shelter to shelter and never had a loving home or anyone to teach him basic manors. I decided it was best to get a professional involved as he was very hard to handle! I took Sye to private and group training with Kristi Logterman and had great results! Sye now has basic manors and even some more advanced skills as well. Kristi took the time to explain exactly how to handle situations and she also gave us great information on how dogs think vs how humans think. She always had lots of ideas and tricks so if one thing didn't work she would suggest another way. This really helped in the training process! I would recommend anyone to Kristi! 😊"

"Have been a pug owner for almost 20 years - but my latest pug - defeated my abilities .... I knew that she had issues when I got her - but changing her behavior was proving impossible on my own. "Throw me a bone " had a booth at this year's Pugfest - I made an appointment and after just one visit realized that I had found someone who could really help modify Poppy's behavior. Kristi's suggestions were extremely helpful and worked !!! would not hesitate to recommend her services."

The simple basic commands that she taugt me made all the difference. I would highly recommend Kristi to anyone looking to train their dog. "Kristi is so patient and knowledgeable. She made sure I understood everything before she left. I have lots of literature and homework. Kristi is very thorough. My new rescue has never had any training and doesn't know how to function without a constant human companion. We have seen such an improvement in just 24 hrs that I know it won't be long before our fur babies get along, and Buffy learns to be a dog. Turns out we needed training as well. "After our first session, both my little dog and I were exhausted. We had covered so much information - we had LOTS of issues! But today, I can tell a difference in her already. The excessive barking was my main concern, and using the calming technique we learned yesterday, she is already 100% better! I am stunned and amazed, and truly grateful. THANK YOU Kristi, you're the BEST!"

Frank D. says:
"Kristi immediately made a difference with our 8 month old Labradoodle. There were issues with continually jumping on and nipping at the wife, and not listening to her at all.
Kristi explained how dogs think and how we need to communicate to him what we want him to do.
Her approach is positive reinforcement of good behavior, not trying to change bad behavior by negative reactions.
Now the dog respects the wife's space, is very good at sit stay and down stay, and is well on the way to being calm when someone comes to the door. He also greets people in a much calmer and respectful way after Kristi working with him.
Kristi's rate for training is very reasonable, and she works her schedule to come to your house when it's convenient for you.
I doubt there is any dog behavior that she hasn't dealt with successfully in her years of experience.
We have and would recommend Kristi to anyone with a dog or dogs with issues, minor or major. It's very clear that Kristi is very passionate about gentle, force free dog training techniques.

"We reached out to Kristi after reading the many glowing reviews she had. One of the biggest issues we had with our rescue dog was that he was fearful of my husband and people in general. We struggled with training him and were looking for someone to train US just as much as our dog. 😊 Kristi was incredibly responsive from the moment we reached out. She gave us advice before she even came for the first session! Kristi clearly cares about dogs, is knowledgeable and is open to finding new ways to help. When our dog was too afraid to even come close to her for training, she brought in life size stuffed dogs to help our dog feel like he was “part of a pack”. We let him watch us pet the stuffed dogs, pretended to have them eat etc. It was amazing to watch how quickly our dog responded and started changing his behavior based on what he saw the other “dogs” doing! We would have never thought to do that if it hadn’t been for Kristi! She is awesome-we are so thankful we found her!"

She comes very prepared, is patient, and my little Bentley just loved her. She was able to get him to do things I've never seen before...it was very interesting to see.
